Summary:

This morning San Bernardino County Fire crews were dispatched to a reported commercial fire near 4th & D Street, San Bernardino. 911 callers stated smoke from a vacant multi-story commercial building.

Firefighters quickly arrived to find smoke showing from the commercial occupancy. Arriving crews encountered forcible entry challenges, once inside found heavy smoke on the second floor. The building, spanning 3 floors & 21,000 square feet previously was an office. Crews initiated search in the second floor with zero visibility conditions. Firefighters utilized thermal imaging cameras to aid their search. Firefighters located two occupants trapped inside behind locked doors. Firefighters created an exit path to vacate them from the building. Both occupants were uninjured.

Due to the potential & size of the building a second alarm was quickly struck. Firefighters engaged on multiple floors, working on a fire attack & searches for potential victims. Within 45 minutes of arrival the fire was knocked down & all searches were negative. Evidence of squatter/transient was evident inside the vacant occupancy. No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported. The fire remains under investigation by #SBCoFD Investigators.

San Bernardino County Fire responded with 8 Engines, Three Truck Companies, a Medic Squad, three Chief Officers, & a Fire Investigator. Colton FD assisted with an Engine Company.
