Incident: Residential Structure Fire

Summary:

This afternoon San Bernardino County Fire crews were dispatched to a reported residential structure fire near Centerbury St & Sunburst, Joshua Tree.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and fire showing from a single story home. Heavy winds & multiple exposures were found on arrival. Arriving crews initiated an aggressive attack, working to suppress the fire, keeping it from speeding to adjacent vegetation, vehicles and outbuildings. While firefighters engaged in a fire attack, energized power lines became compromised & fell, causing a hazard to personnel on-scene. Within minutes Edison arrived and mitigated the hazard.

Firefighters utilized multiple hose lines and master stream devices to knock the fire down. Within 30 minutes of arriving the fire was knocked down. Despite a strong South wind, Firefighters were successful in limiting the spread to vegetation and multiple vehicles.

The home unfortunately sustained heavy damage and is uninhabitable. Red Cross was requested to assist two displaced occupants. After investigating the fire appeared to be electrical in nature. No injuries to firefighters or citizens were reported.

San Bernardino County Fire responded with four Engines and a Battalion Chief.
