Summary:

Yesterday evening, San Bernardino County Fire responded to multiple reports of an apartment on fire in the 9000 block of Newport Avenue in the city of Fontana. Police officers on scene confirmed an active fire with evacuations in progress.

Firefighters arrived to find a two-story apartment complex with a well-involved, upstairs, end unit. Crews made an aggressive interior attack which confined the fire to the original apartment and saved the rest of the attached residences.

The fire was knocked down in approximately 30 minutes.

The original apartment suffered heavy fire damage while one adjacent unit as well as the apartment beneath suffered minor damage from suppression efforts. Three residents were displaced due to the blaze and were being assisted by the American Red Cross.

County Fire responded with six engines, two truck companies, one medic squad, a battalion chief and an investigator totaling 28 personnel. No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported. The cause remains under investigation through County Fire’s Office of the Fire Marshal.
