Emergency Services Support (ESS) is comprised of volunteers that operate throughout San Bernardino County and assist San Bernardino County Fire personnel in meeting fire service objectives during daily operations as well as during emergencies and disasters.
Emergency Services Support (ESS) is comprised of volunteers that operate throughout San Bernardino County and assist San Bernardino County Fire personnel in meeting fire service objectives during daily operations as well as during emergencies and disasters. ESS volunteers help first responders focus on training and operational duties by performing incident and operations-related tasks such as: firefighter rehabilitation, pre-shelter reception, red flag warning patrol, clerical support, ice patrol, publication creation and design, technical support, public outreach, logistical support, and other related duties.
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must possess a CA Class C Driver’s License
- Completion of OES Volunteer Application
- Registered as a State of CA Disaster Service Worker (DSW)
- Successful completion of a Department of Justice/
- Federal Bureau of Investigation (DOJ/FBI) Background Check
Required Training Courses
- ICS 100, IS-700, and SEMS Introduction OR Introduction to Incident Management
- Fire Station/800 Radio Communications Etiquette
- AHA CPR/First Aid
Optional Training
- County Fire Driver Training, Seismic Simulator Operation, CERT,
- Amateur/Ham Radio Operations and more
Minimum of 8 volunteer hours per month
- On-Scene Incident Support*

*These functions could initially be filled by ESS volunteers already in the field and augmented by other Fire Corps groups.
