The San Bernardino County Fire Protection District (SBCFPD) has been awarded a grant of $725,000 by the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians for the purchase of a Type II fire bulldozer and trailer. This investment is part of the 2022 San Manuel Grant Award and will significantly enhance the firefighting capabilities of County Fire.
The grant will fund the acquisition of firefighting equipment without the need for Discretionary General Funding, underscoring SBCFPD’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and the well-being of its residents. The addition of a Type II fire bulldozer and trailer is expected to reinforce County Fire’s ability to respond to wildland fires. The new apparatus will increase safety and reducing the risk of catastrophic fire events across the district’s diverse communities and wildland urban interface areas.
Spanning over 20,160 square miles, the district faces unique challenges in fire prevention and response. County Fire is an all-risk emergency and fire protection agency, serving more than 60 communities from 48 strategically located fire stations. The new equipment will complement existing resources, enabling a more robust response to fires within the district and aiding in mutual aid requests across the State of California.
This grant reflects a continued partnership between the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians and SBCFPD, aimed at fostering a safer, more resilient community. The agreement highlights the collaborative efforts to address and mitigate the impact of fires through innovative solutions and community engagement. It emphasizes a mutual commitment to safeguarding the district’s residents and their properties.
The San Bernardino County Fire Protection District remains dedicated to enhancing its firefighting capabilities, working closely with local communities, stakeholders, and partners like the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians to ensure a safer future for all residents.
