Location: 200 block of D Street, San Bernardino
Incident: Three Alarm Commercial Fire

Summary:

This afternoon San Bernardino County Fire crews were dispatched to a commercial fire alarm in the 200 block of North D Street. Numerous 911 callers also stated smoke showing form a multi-story commercial occupancy at North D and West 2nd Street. The call was quickly upgraded to a full commercial fire response.

Firefighters quickly arrived to find smoke and fire showing from the third story of a three-story commercial office building. Due to size of the building and fire conditions, the fire was balanced to a second and ultimately a third alarm.

Firefighters engaged in an aggressive interior attack, working to limit the fire’s spread and search for any potential victims. A south wind fanned the flames, which concerned crews as the fire pushed north through the large office building. Multiple Truck Companies worked on the roof, working to improve interior conditions keep the fire from spreading throughout the 44,000 square foot, three story building. Truck crews utilized “trench cuts” to corral the fire to the corner of the building.

Ultimately the fire was knocked down in approximately 60 minutes. Once the fire was knocked down, firefighters transitioned to overhaul and salvage operations, working to limit further water or smoke damage. Despite a well involved fire, firefighters were successful in keeping the fire from spreading to a small portion of the third floor, adjacent floors and nearby buildings. All searches of the building were negative. No injuries to firefighters or citizens were noted. The fire remains under investigation by SBCoFD Fire Investigators.

San Bernardino County Fire responded with 13 Engines, 4 Truck Companies, three Chief Officers, an Air/Light Unit, a Medic Squad & three Fire Investigators. Colton, Rialto, Loma Linda also assisted each with an Engine Company.
