Incident: Residential Structure Fire with Fatality (BDC 23-237974)
Summary:
This morning at 4:38am, San Bernardino County Fire was dispatched to a residential structure fire on West Magnolia & North “E” Street in the city of San Bernardino. 911 callers reported a home with a roof on fire.
Crews located the incident one block south of the reported location and found a single story home well involved with fire. Arriving firefighters were notified of victims possibly trapped in the home. Downed power lines in the front yard and metal-barred windows created temporary access issues, however firefighters made rapid entry to locate victims and work on fire attack. Firefighters simultaneously deployed to the roof to perform vertical ventilation to improve conditions inside the home. Additional personnel and an ambulance were ordered to support the efforts.
Once inside, rescue crews immediately located one victim. Advanced Life Support care was initiated by additional firefighter-paramedics. The adult patient was transported to an area hospital in grave condition. A second victim was sadly found deceased inside the home.
The fire was knocked down within twenty minutes of arrival. Blocked interior corridors, barred exterior windows & no working smoke detectors were found in the home. The fire’s cause and origin is under investigation by fire investigators.
San Bernardino County Fire responded with five Engines, a Chief Officer, Ladder Truck & four Fire Investigators.
San Bernardino County Fire reminds residents to ensure working smoke detectors are located on each floor of their home as well as in each bedroom. Have an escape plan and practice it regularly.
