Incident: Structure Fire with Fatality (BDC#: 23-165981)
Summary:
At 7:30 this evening, San Bernardino County Fire responded to a report of a motor home on fire in the 11900 block of Cove Rd in the community of Lucerne Valley.
Firefighters arrived to find a recreational vehicle fully involved in the back of the property as well as multiple vehicles and a quarter acre of vegetation also burning. Due to the degree of fire involvement, a defensive attack was initiated on the motor home while additional crews focused on the vehicles and vegetation to prevent spread to the main residence.
The bulk of the fire was knocked down within minutes. During a primary search of the motor home, an adult male was located, deceased.
No other injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported.
Five engines, one medic ambulance, one water tender, a battalion chief and an investigator totaling 19 personnel were assigned to the incident. CalFire-San Bernardino Unit and Apple Valley Fire Protection District each provided an engine company through mutual aid.
The cause of the fire remains under joint investigation through San Bernardino County’s Office of the Fire Marshal and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
