Incident: Vegetation Fire

Summary:

This afternoon San Bernardino County Fire Crews were dispatched to a reported vehicle fire in the area of Jurupa x Alder, Fontana. Additional 911 callers stated adjacent vegetation was also involved & the call was quickly balanced to a vegetation fire response.

Firefighters arrived to find a vehicle fire with one acre of vegetation involved. The fire was burning uphill at a rapid rate of spread in dry grass, fanned by winds. A second alarm was quickly struck to bring additional crews and personnel for the scene. City of Fontana Police Department assisted with with traffic control & with securing a water dip site at a local golf course.

Despite high temps, steep terrain, dry fuels and low humidity; firefighters were successful in stopping the fire at eight acres. The fire’s forward rate of spread was stopped by 4:30PM & crews continued to work on containment lines and mop-up operations well into the evening. The fire was started by a vehicle which became stuck. Thankfully no injuries to firefighters or citizens were reported.

San Bernardino County Fire responded with six Engines, three Chief Officers, a Dozer, a Hand Crew, a Water Tender & Two Fire Investigators. Rialto Fire Rancho Cucamonga Fire District Ontario Fire Department & San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department all assisted on the incident. Thanks to our cooperators for their assistance.
