Candidates interested in testing for a Firefighter/ Firefighter Paramedic position should visit the San Bernardino County Human Resources website at www.sbcounty.gov/hr to determine which positions are accepting applications. If a position is open, follow the instructions to apply online. Human Resources will e-mail a test date to you. Remember to check the website on a regular basis. You also have an option to put in an interest card through the website to receive an email when a recruitment opens.

We only accept a passing grade through FCTC ( Firefighter Candidate Testing Center) https://www.fctconline.org Please be proactive and take the test prior to the department opening the position. This way you will see if your grade is a passing score prior to applying.

We are only accepting the C-PAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) through FCTC. We are NO LONGER accepting the Biddle Agility. You must provide a certified passing score and dated within one year prior to the next step. https://www.fctconline.org/cpat/

Candidates that are testing for a Firefighter Paramedic position will be given a “Paramedic Assessment Test”. This test will be based off of National Registry with a basic written and skills test. Our human resources department will contact you with test dates.

The applicant will be interviewed by a panel, be sure to have your resume’ handy. Follow ALL the directions given to you from our human resources department. Make sure you “dress for success”.

A background investigation will be assigned to each candidate. Be patient, the investigator will do a thorough background on each candidate. Once they contact you be sure to follow all directions that they provide for you to be successful.

The medical evaluation is thorough and it is essential that you be in excellent health with no conditions which would restrict your ability to safely perform the duties of a Firefighter.

If you are called and given a start date, Congratulations! You have been successful through the Firefighter Trainee Testing Process. You will be going through a 16 week Fire Academy which you must successfully complete to become a Probationary Firefighter &/or Firefighter Paramedic.
