Incident:         Residential Structure Fire 22-065608

Summary:

Just after noon last week San Bernardino County Fire responded to reports of an unknown type fire in the north east portion of Hesperia City.  Smoke could be seen for several miles in the desert area. Medic Engine 302 arrived in approximately 4 minutes to find smoke and fire showing from a local commercial recycling yard. As firefighters made access into the property they found a metal debris fire well involved with fire.

A nearby vehicle parking area as well as stacked crushed cars were immediately threatened. Hose lines were deployed as a water source was secured with a nearby hydrant.  Among the debris several propane tanks were venting in the pile. Firefighters were successful in keeping the fire from spreading to nearby exposures. Crews worked to spread the pile out and overhaul with on site heavy equipment.

No injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported. Four engines, one truck company, one chief officer, one paramedic squad, and one investigator, totaling 19 personnel from County Fire were assigned to the incident. Victorville City assisted with one engine.
