Incident: Commercial Structure Fire

Summary:

Early this morning, San Bernardino County Fire crews were dispatched to a reported commercial structure fire near East Highland Ave & the 210 Freeway. Numerous 911 callers stated smoke and fire were coming from a tire shop.

Firefighters quickly arrived to find heavy smoke and fire showing from a vacant auto repair business. Crews mounted a defensive fire attack, working to suppress the well-involved structure and protect nearby exposures. Firefighters utilized multiple hand lines and ladder pipes to flow large amounts of water on the fire which was fueled my numerous tires stored inside the facility. The fire continued to spread through the commercial occupancy, and multiple structural collapses occurred.

One collapse occurred near two firefighters who were actively engaged in suppression efforts. Thankfully they were able to quickly back away from the hazard and continue operations. Both firefighters were uninjured.

It took crews approximately 60 minutes to knock down the fire. Personnel remained on-scene for multiple hours working on overhaul and investigation.

The fire remains under investigation by San Bernardino County Fire Investigators. Building officials were requested to red tag the heavily damaged structure. No injuries to firefighters or citizens were reported.

San Bernardino County Fire responded with five Engines, two Truck Companies, a Medic Squad, two Fire Investigators and a Battalion Chief.
