The San Bernardino County Fire Protection District (SBCoFD) is proud to announce its collaboration with Working Dogs for Warriors, Corp. (WDFW) through the recently approved Adoption/Donation Agreement. This partnership will greatly enhance County Fire’s Peer Support Program by incorporating two service dogs into its efforts to support and assist its dedicated personnel.
County Fire is a community-based emergency services provider committed to delivering exceptional service to the citizens and communities it serves. The nature of their work exposes first responders to physically and emotionally challenging situations, leading to potential post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury, and other service-related injuries.
Working Dogs for Warriors, a respected 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, is dedicated to honoring individuals who have dedicated their lives to serving our community and country. As part of their commitment, WDFW has generously donated two service dogs to County Fire, specifically designated for the Peer Support Program. These highly trained service dogs will play an integral role in improving the physical, social, educational, and mental well-being of County Fire employees.
The service dogs will be assigned to approved handlers within County Fire’s Peer Support team, who have undergone specialized training provided by WDFW. These designated handlers will assume the responsibility of caring for the dogs, ensuring they reside with them and receive the necessary attention and support.
County Fire’s Peer Support Program offers confidential assistance to its members experiencing personal or professional crises. The addition of the service dogs from WDFW will further augment the program, allowing County Fire personnel and residents of the county to benefit from the positive interactions and support offered by these trained animals.
This collaboration demonstrates County Fire’s commitment to prioritizing the health and welfare of its firefighting community. By integrating the service dogs into the Peer Support Program, County Fire aims to foster a resilient and supportive environment for its personnel, ensuring their well-being throughout their service.
