Location: 500 block of West 2nd, San Bernardino
Incident: Commercial Fire

Summary:

Last night San Bernardino County crews were dispatched to a reported commercial fire at the intersection of West 2nd Street and South E Street, San Bernardino. 911 callers stated a vacant building on fire.

Firefighters arrived on-scene to find fire and smoke from a two story commercial occupancy. The building, vacant at the time of the fire was formerly a bank. Firefighters initiated an offensive fire attack, working to suppress the fire and search for potential victims. Despite the building being vacant, fire crews found a heavy content load and evidence of transient activity inside the vacant building. Crews encounter heavy smoke and fire conditions throughout the second floor.

The heavy content loading and running roof decking fire complicated fire suppression efforts. Despite the complications, the fire was knocked down within 30 minutes. All searches of the building came up negative. No injuries to firefighters or citizens were noted. A fire investigator was summoned to complete a cause/origin investigation. The fire remains under investigation.

San Bernardino County Fire responded with 7 Engines, 3 Trucks, two Battalion Chiefs, an Air/Light unit and a Fire Investigator.
