The San Bernardino County Office of Emergency Services (OES) announced the receipt of the 2021 Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) and the EMPG-American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. These grants, totaling $641,736, will be used to support various programs and projects aimed at enhancing emergency management capabilities within the county.
Among the notable projects is the Town of Apple Valley’s Emergency Services Assistant, which will streamline emergency management functions and enhance the town’s internal notification system for emergency operations center (EOC) responders. The City of Chino’s Disaster Cost Recovery Training will provide personnel with comprehensive knowledge of disaster cost recovery processes and FEMA’s “Public Assistance” program, ensuring efficient financial management during emergencies. Additionally, the City of Montclair’s EOC update project, including the purchase of a laser projector, will modernize equipment and enhance essential functions.
Other projects focus on staffing, such as the City of Chino Hills’ Emergency Services Analyst and the City of Rancho Cucamonga’s Emergency Management Specialist. These positions will facilitate emergency preparedness, community outreach, and the coordination of volunteer programs, fostering community safety and resilience in times of disaster.
These initiatives demonstrate San Bernardino County’s commitment to proactive emergency management, empowering local agencies to respond effectively to crises. By investing in organization, staffing, training, and equipment, the county is taking significant steps to ensure the safety and well-being of its residents.
The San Bernardino County Operational Area, responsible for coordinating and managing emergency preparedness efforts within the county, has been receiving EMPG funds since 2004. With the additional funding provided under the ARPA, the county will further strengthen its emergency management initiatives.
