This week #SBCoFD firefighters from San Bernardino participated in an “Every 15 Minutes” multi-agency demonstration at Cajon High School.
Produced by the San Bernardino City Unified School District’s office of emergency management, this event shows high school students the consequences of drunk or impaired driving with real-time demonstrations of a major traffic accident.
With a simulated car crash prepared in front of hundreds of onlooking students, County Fire crews from Station 227, 226 and 221 were dispatched to a gruesome scene, complete with student actors in moulage playing injured or dead. The Grim Reaper, a common theme at these events, patrolled the scene as well.
Crews then performed vehicle extrication techniques to remove and deliver seriously injured patients to a waiting ambulance. Meanwhile, law enforcement officers arrested a young driver, and coroner personnel placed a deceased student to a body bag.
The nationally recognized program originally got its name from a statistic that estimated every 15 minutes, someone in the U.S. died as a result of an alcohol related crash.
County Fire reminds drivers that similar to impairment, distracted driving can cause accidents leading to fateful consequences as well. Eliminate use of distracting devices while driving to stay safe.
County Fire coordinated during the event with personnel from @sanbernardinopolice, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s coroner’s office and the CHP.
