On Saturday morning San Bernardino County Fire hosted an open house and pancake breakfast celebrating the recent establishment of Station 306 on Ranchero Road near I Ave. in Hesperia’s south end, near the entrance to the Silverwood development currently under construction.
Approximately 250-300 community members attended the event, which ran from 7 a.m. to noon. Attendees were asked to provide a cash or non-perishable donation to support High Desert Second Chance food bank.
In his remarks, Fire Chief Dan Munsey highlighted County Fire’s partners in bringing this facility online.
“This is one of the first new fire stations for County Fire in many years. It shows that the commitment to public safety from the County, the Silverwood Development and the Hesperia city council has been tremendous,” Munsey said.
Elected representatives presented certificates commemorating the facility. Several cooperating fire agencies attended as well, including personnel from CAL FIRE San Bernardino/Inyo/Mono Unit, Bureau of Land Management Fire and USFS Fire. A helicopter from Global Medical Response was on static display.
In addition, attendees were invited to participate in a “push-in” ceremony, where the fire engine and ambulance were backed into the apparatus bay, symbolizing their readiness to serve the community.
The facility, which houses a paramedic engine company and ambulance crew as well as a brush engine that personnel staff for wildland fires, has been in service since late last year. It is a temporary facility, with plans for a permanent firehouse to be constructed later in the Silverwood development process.
