The San Bernardino County Fire Hand Crew 8 is hard at work around the county, reducing hazardous vegetation, and creating defensible space in high-risk areas. These critical fuel reduction projects are a key component in protecting communities from destructive wildfires. Assigned to Division 13 (Air and Wildland), Crew 8 is trained to cut back overgrown brush, remove dead or dying vegetation, and performs other fuels management tasks that help slow the spread of wildfires.
We recently caught up with them creating defensible space-buffer zones around homes at the base of the Jurupa Hills in @city_of_fontana_ca. Fuel reduction and defensible space are among the most effective tools we have in our fight against wildfires. These projects are part of a broader commitment by #SBCoFD to implement wildfire mitigation strategies ahead of peak fire season.
Residents are encouraged to be prepared for the upcoming fire season. Complete frequent evaluations regarding defensible space and hazards that may exist on and around your property, including vegetation overgrowth, combustible materials, and access limitations. Please get to know your neighbors and be aware of any conditions or hazards that may exist within your communities and neighborhoods.
