An early morning structure fire tore through a commercial building in San Bernardino, causing significant damage but sparing nearby school buses thanks to the swift actions of firefighters.

Today at 1:09 a.m., crews from the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District responded to reports of a structure fire in the area of East 9th Street and Pedley Rd in the City of San Bernardino. Upon arrival, firefighters were faced with heavy flames engulfing a 3,000-square-foot commercial building. The fire posed an immediate threat to more than a dozen school buses parked nearby.

Over 26 fire personnel worked aggressively to contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading to the exposed vehicles. Despite the intensity of the fire, crews limited damage to the buses to some minor exterior damage, minimizing further property loss. The commercial building was ultimately destroyed, but there was no reported damage to other surrounding structures. The fire was brought under control in less than 30 minutes. There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by San Bernardino County Fire’s Office of the Fire Marshall.
