San Bernardino, CA – On May 17, the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District marked a major milestone with the grand opening of Fire Station 226, a modern facility built to better serve the Del Rosa neighborhood and surrounding areas in the City of San Bernardino. County and city officials, tribal partners, community members, and fire service leaders gathered to celebrate the ribbon-cutting of the $10.2 million facility.

The new facility replaces the original station, built in 1976, and will support emergency response capabilities with upgraded features such as a third apparatus bay, drive-through access, and modern crew quarters. The station currently houses a paramedic engine company and paramedic squad crew, with room to accommodate future additional staffing. In 2024 alone, crews responded to over 9,700 calls for service, with over 2,900 additional responses already in 2025 as of May 1, 2025.

Funding for the project included $6.7 million from San Bernardino County Fire and $3.5 million contributed by the Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation. The new station will support emergency response throughout the neighborhood, including nearby schools and parks, and provide a more resilient base of operations during wildfires and other disasters.

“This station represents more than just a building,” San Bernardino County Fire Chief Dan Munsey said. “Today, being a firefighter is different than it was 30 years ago. Firefighters are exposed to more danger, more chemicals, more fire, and more violence than ever before. Having an updated facility that they can come home to after every run, after every call, means the world to me.”

The new station highlights the relationship between San Bernardino County, the Fire District, and the Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation as partners in public safety for the residents of San Bernardino.

At the ceremony, San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors Chairman Dawn Rowe and Vice Chair Joe Baca, Jr. emphasized the County’s ongoing investment in fire services, including millions in recent grants to improve fire stations and equipment across the region. Other speakers included Assemblymember James Ramos, San Bernardino Mayor Helen Tran, San Bernardino County Chief Executive Officer Luther Snoke, Fire Chief Keith Alexander of the San Manuel Fire Department, and Jim Grigoli, President of IAFF Local 935.

The celebration concluded with a ribbon cutting and a community pancake breakfast, allowing residents to tour the new facility and meet the crew members who serve them.
