San Bernardino County Fire and City of Fontana Celebrate the Grand Opening of State-of-the-Art Fire Station 81
Fontana, CA – On June 18, 2024, San Bernardino County Fire and the City of Fontana proudly celebrated the grand opening of the highly anticipated Fire Station 81. This state-of-the-art facility, strategically located in the north end of Fontana, is designed to serve the city’s growing population and development needs. The new station underscores a shared commitment between San Bernardino County Fire and the City of Fontana to enhance public safety and community well-being.
The new facility spans an impressive 13,247 square feet and features three engine bays, one battalion chief’s bay, six crew dorms, two captain’s dorms, and one dorm for the battalion chief. This comprehensive setup ensures that the station is fully equipped to handle a variety of emergencies with efficiency and speed.
At a total cost of $8.2 million, Fire Station 81 represents a significant investment in the community’s safety and health. The station’s presence is expected to maintain a response time of less than five minutes in the northern part of Fontana, which is critical for responding to life-threatening emergencies like cardiac arrests. This rapid response capability will help firefighters save lives and protect property.
The station’s design accommodates future growth, with plans for expansion to include both an engine company and a truck company. This forward-thinking approach ensures that Fire Station 81 will continue to meet the evolving needs of the community. The station is also designed to facilitate quick responses to fires, particularly during Santa Ana wind events, thereby minimizing fire spread and enhancing protection.
“The opening of Fire Station 81 is a significant milestone for both the City of Fontana and the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District,” said San Bernardino County Fire Chief Dan Munsey. “This state-of-the-art facility will greatly enhance our ability to respond quickly to emergencies, protect lives, and support the growth of the community.”
The successful completion of Fire Station 81 is a testament to the strong partnership between San Bernardino County Fire, the City of Fontana, and the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors. This collaborative effort highlights the dedication of all parties involved to prioritize public safety and community well-being.
