Incident: Vegetation Fire
Summary:
This afternoon #SBCoFD crews were dispatched to a reported vegetation fire near Little Mountain Drive & West Edgehill, San Bernardino. 911 callers stated vegetation on fire at the base of Little Mountain.
Arriving crews found 1-2 acres of light, flashy fuels burning at a moderate rate of spread. Firefighters initiated a direct fire attack, working to limit the fires spread. The fire quickly advanced through dry, receptive grass and quickly progressed uphill. Due to the size and potential, a second alarm was quickly struck.
Crews continued to work on perimeter control & protect an adjacent apartment complex from the fast moving fire. Within two hours of arrival firefighter managed to stop the forward profession of the fire at 20 acres. Firefighters transitioned to mop-up operations and spent multiple hours on line construction, mop-up and clean up.
The fires cause remains under investigation. No injuries to firefighters were reported. No structures were damaged or lost in the fast moving fire. The fire is now 100% contained.
San Bernardino County Fire responded with eight Engines, two Water Tenders, one Dozer, one Hand crew, four Chief Officers and a Fire Investigator. CALFIRE, Colton Fire, and San Manuel Fire assisted with the incident. Thank you to our cooperators for your assistance.
