Summary:
This afternoon San Bernardino County Fire crews were dispatched to a reported vegetation fire near West Kendall Drive & North University Pkwy, San Bernardino. Multiple 911 callers stated a hillside on fire.
Crews quickly arrived to find 2 acres of light fuels burning uphill at a rapid rate of spread. Arriving firefighters worked to stop the spread the fire & also engaged in structure defense ahead of the fire front.
The fire quickly burned uphill through dry and receptive fuels towards homes on Pinnacle Lane. Hand crew members and a bulldozer worked to complete fire line while crews deployed to protect homes. Within 30 minutes of arrival the fire burned 10 acres. Firefighters were successful in stopping the fire from spreading to homes & additional dry fuel. The fire was stopped at 13 acres. No homes were damaged or destroyed by the fire.
The fire remains under investigation by SBCoFD Investigators. One firefighter was injured during the firefight. The firefighter was treated at a local hospital and has been released.
San Bernardino County Fire responded with 9 Engines, two Hand Crews, a Dozer, three Chief Officers, a Training / Safety Officer & two Fire Investigators responded.
