SAN BERNARDINO – San Bernardino County Supervisor Dawn Rowe praised state officials for providing $12 million in funding for the construction of a new fire station in the Town of Yucca Valley. The funds were allocated as part of the 2021-2022 state budget package that was signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom last evening.
“These funds wouldn’t have materialized without the efforts of Assembly Member Chad Mayes,” said Rowe. “This outcome is a great example of local government working in unison with our state representatives to ensure rural residents receive the services they need and deserve.”
Mayes, whose State Assembly district includes Yucca Valley, requested $12 million from the Newsom Administration after hearing numerous concerns about public safety from residents, business owners, and local officials, including Rowe.
“For years, Yucca Valley was one of the best kept secrets in Southern California, but the growth of tourism in the region has resulted in an increase in traffic accidents along Highway 62 and calls for emergency services, said Mayes. “This new fire station is a significant investment in the future of Yucca Valley and provides the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District with the resources they need to serve our desert community.”
As the agency responsible for fire, emergency medical, and rescue services in Yucca Valley, the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District will be the recipient of the funding. Details regarding the future location of the station and project timeline have not been determined at this time.
“The District will be working closely with our partners in Yucca Valley over the course of the next few months to identify a suitable location that maximizes the benefit of this new fire station, which will include reduced response times for outlying communities like Landers,” added San Bernardino County Fire Chief Dan Munsey. “I can’t thank Assembly Member Mayes and our local elected officials enough for their tireless support of our first responders.”
