SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, CA – San Bernardino County Fire responded to a reported commercial structure fire on the 1100 block of Pinecrest Rd in Twin Peaks. The first arriving engine reported a working attic fire, with fire through the roof of a large two-story commercial building. Approximately 50% of the attic space was involved on arrival. Due to these factors, a second alarm was requested.
Firefighters immediately advanced multiple hose lines into the building and initiated an aggressive interior attack. Icy conditions, both on the road and on-scene hampered firefighting efforts. During the firefight a partial roof collapse forced crews to affect a zone retreat while maintaining their offensive attack within the structure. It took firefighters approximately 1 hour to bring this stubborn fire under control.
A total of 43 personnel responded to this fire. Mutual aid assistance was provided by the San Manuel & Running Springs Fire Departments. No reported injuries to civilians or firefighters. There was an estimated one million dollars in damages. Firefighters were able to keep the fire to the building of origin.
The cause of the fire was from usage of a fireplace and accidental in nature. San Bernardino County Fire would like to remind residents to regularly have their chimneys & fireplaces inspected and cleaned.
