SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, CA – San Bernardino County Fire and Sheriff’s Aviation Team Up for Canyon Rescue

Crews from San Bernardino County Fire and the Sheriff’s Aviation unit worked together Sunday evening to rescue a subject whose off-road vehicle had plunged 30-40 feet over the side of a dirt road in a canyon near Lytle Creek.

#SBCoFD Firefighter/paramedics hiked down to the crash location to meet Sheriff flight crew personnel who had been lowered to the scene. The crews then worked to treat and prepare the adult male patient for hoist to the hovering helicopter, which transported the patient to a regional trauma center.

The injured subject was found just outside the vehicle where it had come to rest. Three other occupants of the four-seat all-terrain vehicle, all adults, were uninjured.

With the exact location and accessibility of the patient initially undetermined, County Fire responded multiple resources from Fontana and San Bernardino, including two engine companies, a paramedic squad, a technical rescue crew and a battalion chief, as well as its own all-terrain rescue vehicle. American Medical Response responded for any additional patient transports.

The crash is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
