Crestline, CA — Early this morning, San Bernardino County Fire Protection District crews responded to a reported residential structure fire on the 25000 block of Basel Drive in Crestline.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a home filled with heavy smoke and two adult residents suffering from smoke inhalation. Fire personnel quickly escorted both patients to an awaiting paramedic ambulance for immediate medical care.
Crews began an aggressive interior search and utilized thermal imaging cameras to locate the source of the fire, which was traced to a floor heater area with extension into surrounding walls and void spaces. Firefighters swiftly knocked down the flames, but extensive overhaul and salvage operations were necessary to ensure the blaze was fully extinguished.
During operations, crews discovered a family dog that was unresponsive. Thanks to the rapid medical intervention of SBCoFD paramedics, the dog was successfully revived and reunited with its owners.
Both adult patients were transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor smoke inhalation. No firefighter injuries were reported.
The incident serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of early detection. The San Bernardino County Fire Protection District urges all residents to ensure their homes are equipped with working smoke detectors and to test them regularly.
