SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, CA – Crews Work to Contain Recent Fontana Structure Fire
San Bernardino County Fire crews teamed to limit the spread of a recent house fire in Fontana, as engine company personnel on the inside and ladder truck operations on the roof helped keep the fire from exposing neighboring structures.
With occupants already evacuating, the first arriving engine crew made entry into the home, applying hose streams while the truck company ventilated the structure from the roof.
A search of the structure confirmed no one was still inside the home. The fire was brought under control in approximately 20 minutes.
A total of two adults, three children and three dogs were displaced by the fire. The Red Cross was called to assist.
Ladder truck operations, often the most visible part of structural firefighting, can be the most dangerous for firefighters. Working on the roof to remove heat and smoke from the house, truck crews constantly test the integrity of the structure before cutting ventilation openings. The goal is to cut in the most beneficial spot while operating in the safest area possible.
A total of 19 firefighters responded, including four engine companies, one ladder truck and a paramedic squad, working under a battalion chief.
No firefighter injuries were reported; an investigation was started to determine the cause of the fire.
