Incident: Vegetation Fire

his morning San Bernardino County Fire crews were dispatched to a reported unknown type fire in the 700 block of North Terrace Road, San Bernardino. Additional callers stated vegetation on fire & the call was upgraded to a full vegetation response.

Crews arrived to find 1/4 acre of vegetation burning in light fuels with a moderate to rapid rate of spread. Strong winds pushed the fire in dry receptive fuels.

Arriving firefighters initiated a fire attack, working to limit the fires spread prior to the fire reaching nearby homes. High winds quickly pushed the fire, causing a large ember cast & numerous trees to catch fire. Crews deployed on both perimeter control & structure defense, ensuring the fire didn’t spread to adjacent homes.

Despite high winds and dry fuels, the fire was knocked down in approximately 30 minutes. The fire was held to approximately 3 acres. Firefighters were successful in keeping the fire from spreading to homes. The fire is under investigation by #SBCoFD Investigators. One firefighter sustained a leg fracture and was transported to an area hospital by ambulance.

San Bernardino County Fire responded with four Engines, a Hand Crew, Dozer, two Chief Officers and three Fire Investigators. Colton FD assisted with an Engine Company.
