The San Bernardino County Fire Protection District will host a public meeting on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Dumont Dunes Recreation Area to inform the community about an upcoming grant application aimed at improving emergency response services during peak recreation periods.
During this meeting, County Fire officials will present information regarding the District’s application for a California Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Grant administered through California State Parks. The grant would help offset operational and staffing costs associated with providing enhanced emergency medical and fire protection services at Dumont Dunes.
If approved, grant funding would support increased staffing during six critical holiday periods in the 2026/2027 OHV season, including:
- Halloween
- Veteran’s Day
- Thanksgiving
- New Year’s
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- President’s Day
These periods consistently experience elevated visitation and increased emergency response demands.
Having County Fire Rescue/EMS services on-site during times of heavy recreational use significantly improves response times, enhances medical care delivery, and helps save lives. The proposed funding would ensure continued, reliable emergency services for visitors while promoting public safety and responsible recreation.
Community members, stakeholders, and OHV users are encouraged to attend, learn more about the project, and provide feedback.
