The
Inland Empire Chapter of the California
Association of Regional Occupational Centers and
Programs at their annual Outstanding Student
Recognition Competition honored Lake Arrowhead
Explorer Captain Cody Snow on May 13th.
Cody took first place in the category of Fire
Science. Ninety students from 16 school
districts participated.
The 17 year old Explorer Captain spent a great
deal of time preparing for the competition,
which consisted of resume writing, application
forms and extensive oral interviews with a
presentation of a detailed career and work
portfolio. In his final interview, conducted by
two Los Angeles County Sheriff deputies, and a
business executive, Cody demonstrated the use of
the AED (Automated External Defibrillator). Cody
said his four years of training in the San
Bernardino County Fire Explorer program and his
instruction in the Fire Science classes at Rim
of the World High School were his “ace in the
hole”.
Cody stated, “I would definitely say that my
participation in the San Bernardino County Fire
Department's Fire Explorer Post 94 helped a
great deal. I gained experience from oral
interviews, to filling out applications, to
presenting yourself as a professional.”
Cody has been instrumental in creating a website
for Explorer Post 94. To view another of Cody’s

Cody is currently working on becoming a
Paid-Call Firefighter in Lake Arrowhead, where
he can continue serving the citizens of his
community. His long-term goal is to become a
Firefighter Paramedic with the San Bernardino
County Fire Department.
