Firefighters Rescue Family Dog from Burning Home

Image of firefighter giving dog oxygenOn August 9th, at about 10:25 a.m., firefighters from the San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to a house burning in the 14900 block of Manhattan Lane in Fontana. With heavy black smoke pouring from the house, firefighters quickly went into action and discovered that all family members had escaped without injury. However, family members were very distraught and stated their family dog was still inside. Firefighters quickly crawled through waist level smoke and heat to knock down the fire and search for the missing pet. A search of one of the bedrooms revealed the unconscious poodle lying under a bed. Firefighters Mike Roberson and Robert Edie promptly exited the still smoldering home and took the pet to the front lawn where they successfully revived the overcome pet by administering oxygen.

The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time but appears accidental. It took 12 firefighters approximately 11 minutes to bring the fire under control. Damage to the home was contained to two bedrooms and the garage.

Firefighters stress the importance of not re-entering a burning home. The family involved in today’s fire did the right thing by letting properly equipped and trained personnel rescue their pet.
